STYLING YOUR HOME IS EASY AS 1 – 2 – 3!

INTRODUCING “STYLING BY NUMBERS” ™

AVAILABLE EXCLUSIVELY THROUGH

HOME STYLING WORKS®

In my 20+ years as a Field Editor & Story Producer for design magazines – and as a Creative Consultant to national home decor retailers – my job was to create original story ideas and advertising concepts.

The process involved coming up with an idea and sketching my vision to clients. Once the magazine or retailer approved my proposal, I would oversee the photo shoot and collaborate with the photographer to achieve the vision portrayed in my sketch.

I’ll give you a couple of examples, and how those relate to my new idea for Home Styling Works® going forward.

The image below is an example of a sketch I created as part of a story I produced for Better Homes & Gardens® “Best of Flea Market Style” magazine. The concept I created was how to incorporate vintage feed sacks into home decor. The roman shade shot below is one of 6 projects I produced and styled for the story, which were photographed in my home/studio.

What made everything come together was adding numbers on my drawing to correspond to the product featured in the shot.

My work wasn’t limited to editorial features. I also designed and created room settings (both indoors and out) for national retailers. Below is a print piece I produced for Lowe’s that we shot in the outdoor spaces of my former home in Upstate New York:

So, when I was writing my post “I Don’t Know How To Shop For Home Items!”, I thought of how I could show Home Styling Works® readers how to create beautifully styled “scenarios” in their own homes.

Inspired by the illustration-to-photo-shoot concept I’ve created for magazines and retailers, I came up with this idea: What if I sketched finished vignettes based on a particular subject, and showed a fully-styled, ready-to-shop-for setting?

That’s when I came up with “STYLING BY NUMBERS”™.

“Styling By Numbers”™ will combine STYLING with ONE-STOP SHOPPING. Here’s what I’ll do:

  1. Create an interior (or exterior) styling concept (I already have several ideas in the works for upcoming posts!);
  2. Research, shop for and curate all the products featured in the finished vignette;
  3. Hand draw a custom illustration (to scale) that will show you the featured products in a styled scenario so you can see what it will all look like put together;
  4. And finally, I’ll create a design board with links to all the products that you can buy online (that’s where the “one-stop shopping” comes in).

In other words, I’ll be doing all the styling AND shopping for you!

It’s pretty simple. My goal is to de-mystify the styling and shopping process by putting it all together for you! It will be like having a professional photo stylist (with 20+ years of experience) creating a beautiful scenario you can create in your own home.

I can’t wait to share all these shopping and styling ideas with you! Stay tuned for my next post with a Styling By Numbers™ scenario.
